Malaysia Young Composers' Workshop 2021 - Call for Saxophone Works & Virtual Concert

Purpose of Workshop
The workshop aims to promote the creation and performance of new contemporary works in Malaysia. The workshop also aims to improve the collaboration and interaction between composers and performers via the exchange of knowledge, as well as personal opinions and preferences combined with one’s knowledge on certain fields to formulate an even immersive experience which will be home to originality, creativity of craft and providing a platform to hone new composers. With these efforts, a breakthrough could be made, allowing the SMCC to enter an international playfield and allow culturally rich works to be shared.

Participation Content and Regulations
1. Age of participants: Open to Malaysian citizens aged between 18 and 35 years old.
2. No registration fee is required.
3. Work requirements: new works specially created for this workshop.
4. Solo or duet compositions for saxophone and piano. Solo works can only be composed for saxophone.
5. The duration of the work: 5 - 7 minutes.
6. Recommended by universities, teachers, or self-recommended (a previous work is required). 8 to 10 participants will be selected to participate in the workshop.
7. Participants must provide full name, age and contact information, and send the information to the email provided by the organizer for the convenience of the organizer.
8. SMCC will appoint Scarlet Gouk and two composers and as the panel of the workshop. The panels will select a piece from the participants' works and award the composer RM500 as encouragement.
9. The workshop organizing committee will arrange two online courses. The first course is a sharing session where the special guest Scarlet Gouk will share her performance skills and experience about Saxophone and composer will share their inspirations of the compositions. The second course will be conducted after all participants have submitted half or more of their compositions. The panels will also participate in the discussion in the workshop.
Both courses are mandatory for all participants.
10. Completed works will be arranged for performance (which will be held virtually in the form of recordings) and streaming online. All participants will also receive a video of their work and a certificate of participation in the workshop.
11. The materials required are as follows:
a.) A biographical of the participant.
b.) Personal photo.
c.) Introduction of composition.
* Submit with the completed work.

Award
1. An honorarium of 500 RM will be awarded to the sole winner of the workshop.
2. All participants will get a certificate issued by SMCC.
3. All participants will receive a video recording of personal composition.
Other:
1. The organizer reserves the right to use the scores, audio, visual scores, and videos of the shortlisted works.
2. The organizer reserves the right to update any of these regulations without notifying participants in advance.
3. Participants retain the copyright of their works.
