1ST INTERNATIONAL EISENACH COMPOSITION PRIZE
Johann Sebastian Bach was born in 1685 in Eisenach, Germany.
The Eisenach Cultural Office is initiating in 2019 the 1st International Eisenach Composition Prize for Orchestra.The prize is 2,000 Euro. The winning recipient will be determined by an independent jury. Their decision can't be appealed and excludes any legal recourse.
The expectation is that the winning composition will be premiered by the Thüringia Philharmonic Gotha-Eisenach during the winner's concert "Symphonic Weekend" on 16.8.2019. Two additional performances are in the planning stage for seasons 2019/2020 or 2020/2021. The performances of the winning composition would be included in the orchestra concert series at the Landestheater Eisenach and Kulturhaus Gotha. The prizewinner grants the Thueringia Philharmonic Gotha-Eisenach the rights to perform the new piece.
The new composition should reflect a connection to the work of Johann Sebastian Bach. The inspiration for this is the graphic cycle "Hommage à Jean Sebastian Bach" by Victor Vasarely, which is in the collection at Bachhaus Eisenach.

- Minimum age of the composer at the time of submission: 20 years.
- Duration of the new work: up to 15 minutes.
- Permitted Instrumentation: 2.2.2.2.-4.2.3.0.-Timpani-Percussion (Max 3 Musicians)(Bass Drum, Snare Drum, 2 Humpback Gongs, Tubular Bells, Ocean Drum, etc.).
- Strings: 10-8-6-5-3.
