Chamber•Sounds Regional Call For Chamber Opera Proposals 2013
Chamber•Sounds is seeking to commission three new chamber operas from composers living in the Asia-Pacific region. Winners will be selected anonymously by an independent panel; composers will be selected based on the strength of their proposal and past works.
Rules and regulations:
• Open to all composers who are nationals of/living in Asia-Pacific.
• Composers chosen will be commissioned by Chamber•Sounds to write a 15-20min chamber opera, with a world premiere at the Chamber•Sounds recital in July/August 2014.
• A total of three composers will be chosen, and each composer will receive a commissioning fee of S$2500.
• Audio and video recordings will be made available to composers featured in the concert.
o Composers will be required to sign a waiver allowing Chamber•Sounds to post audio and video clips on their official website.
Proposal requirements
• A detailed description of the plot of the chamber opera to be commissioned, with number/type of singers and instruments needed. The duration of the opera should be between 15-20min long.
• Instruments: Choose two to five from the list below (one of each) o Violin
o Viola o Cello o Horn o Euphonium o Flute
o Clarinet in Bb o BaritoneSaxophone o Piano
• Singers: Two to three singers
Submission requirements:
• No entry fee required, but only one proposal submission is allowed per composer. • Proposals must be accompanied by three representative works by the composer.
Both scores and recordings are needed; MIDI realisations are allowed.

Founded in 2005 with the aim of bringing local and contemporary music closer to the hearts of people, Chamber•Sounds has its roots in Singapore ́s Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts where its ten members met and developed firm friendships. Since then, the ensemble has been actively involved in composition and arrangement, performance and inter- disciplinary collaborations, outreach, education, and new initiatives.
