Chin Hong-Da
Originally from Malaysia, Hong-Da Chin has won the 47th Annual BGSU Competitions, Young and Emerging Composer Award at NEOSonicFest (twice), Dolce Suono Ensemble Young Composers Competition, and the 2014 PARMA Student Composers Competition (finalist).
Chin’s music has been performed by the Orkiestra Muzyki Nowej (Poland) and the Bowling Green Philharmonia among others.
Recent performances of Chin’s music include A Withering Sunflower with Uneven Legs for Chinese flute solo and 14 musicians at NEOSonicFest with Cleveland Chamber Symphony under the baton of Steven Smith featuring Chin as the solo Chinese flutist and Two Broken Records, commissioned by Ogni Suono Saxophone Duo, that was recently toured in Europe, the Middle East and the United States.
Besides composing, Chin is also an active Chinese flutist. He recently performed at the Carnegie Hall, Alice Tully Hall, Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, Kennedy Center in Washington D.C., Cutler Majestic Theatre in Boston, Jay Pritzker Pavilion and Chicago Institute of Art in Chicago, Spoleto Festival USA in Charleston, SC, Silesian Theatre in Katowice, Poland.
Chin in currently a doctoral candidate at Bowling Green State University. He studies composition with Marilyn Shrude and Mikel Kuehn.
